In 1998, Montpellier and the Stade de la Mosson hosted six matches. Five were group stage games: Morocco vs. Norway (2-2); Paraguay vs. Bulgaria (0-0); Italy vs. Cameroon (3-0); Colombia vs. Tunisia (1-0) – with Montpellier's Carlos Valderrama as captain – and Germany vs. Iran (2-0). There was also a Round of 16 match where Germany defeated Mexico (2-1) thanks to goals from Klinsmann and Bierhoff.
