1938 World Cup – France
France hosted the 1938 World Cup. Eighteen matches were held in ten stadiums, eight of which were outside of Paris. Twelve of the fifteen nations were European. Defending champions Italy, led by Giuseppe Meazza, won the final against Hungary (4-2). In Colombes, Italy had eliminated France in the quarterfinals (1-3). This poster from the SNCF (French National Railways) displayed the dates of the entire competition across its network.
