In 1930, France found itself in a group with Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. While they defeated Mexico (4-1), France lost to Argentina and Chile by the same score (1-0) and did not advance further. However, history remembers that the very first goal of the competition was scored by the Frenchman Lucien Laurent.
