1986 World Cup – Mexico
In 1986, Louis Nicollin was in Mexico for the World Cup. Playing for Brazil, Carera – the future Napoli striker – had a superb tournament, scoring six goals. He scored the most spectacular goal, the culmination of a beautiful team move, during the legendary quarter-final between France and Brazil in Guadalajara, which Les Bleus won. During the penalty shootout, defender Julio César hit the post and struck Louis Nicollin in the eye. A year later, he signed with Montpellier HSC for three seasons and won the Coupe de France in 1990.
