Alcides Ghiggia
1950 World Cup – Brazil
These remarkably well-preserved boots are the ones that gave Uruguay its second World Cup title in 1950. On July 16, in a Maracanã stadium packed with over 173,000 people, Alcides Ghiggia scored the winning goal against Brazil (1-2) in the final minutes. This match became famous as the "Maracanazo" to evoke the immense shock of this defeat in Brazil.
