This autographed jersey was, by President Louis Nicollin's own admission, one of the five finest pieces in his collection. Beyond his undeniable footballing talent, Alcides Ghiggia is particularly remembered for one phrase: "Three people silenced the Maracanã: Frank Sinatra, the Pope, and me." He was obviously referring to his goal at the end of the final, a goal that plunged Brazil into a state of grief that lasted for many years.
